Defining District (Root Organization) Preferences

In the District (Root Organization) view, you define the following preferences for using Aspen:

• General preferences, such as supported photo types, user-defined help, list options, supported locales, address formats.
• Security preferences, such as session timeouts, logon attempts, and password restrictions.
• Active Directory preferences
• Student preferences, such as ID number generation rules.
• Membership preferences, such as if you count entry and withdrawal days as member days, and the reference tables to use for entry codes.
• Staff preferences, such as the codes you use to indicate that a staff member is a substitute or administrator.
• Student daily attendance preferences, such as the codes you want to appear on each input page and basic attendance settings.
• Student class attendance preferences, such as the codes you want to appear for teachers who use the Staff view to enter and track attendance for their classes.
• Staff attendance preferences, such as the codes you want to appear on each input page and basic attendance settings.
• Conduct preferences to define the numbering scheme for auto-assigned conduct incident IDs.
• Grade preferences, such as the number of decimal places for grade fields.
• Gradebook preferences for the teachers in your district.
• Receipt printing, to determine your label size to print attendance receipts.
• Schedule preferences, such as school or district ownership of course catalog attributes.
• Communication preferences, to set preferences for email and forums.
• Health preferences, to determine the maximum number of doses allowed for immunizations and to customize screenings.
• Global preferences, to associate a reference code with a Global Data Table category.
• Ticket reporting preferences, such as if you enable users with the appropriate privileges to submit help tickets.
• Family/Student portal preferences, to disable portal users' ability to manage their filters, field sets, sort orders, Quick Charts, and Quick Reports.
• Remote Services, to configure Destiny integration with Aspen.
• Cashier's Office preferences
• Extracurricular program preferences

Notes: To access each set of preferences, use the Category menu in the upper-right corner of each preference page. In Aspen's online Help, 'District' is frequently used for the root organization an entity that contains one or more schools, which is the default name of the organization. However, you can change the name of the root organization on the Admin tab, Organization Definitions side-tab, Details. You can also name all intermediate levels here. These names become the tab and view names. In Aspen's online Help, 'Enterprise' is frequently used because it is the default name of the root organization for Canadian users. However, you can change the name of the root organization in the Admin tab, Organization Definitions side-tab, Details. You also define your intermediate organization here. 'District' is the default name for the intermediate organization for Canadian users. The names you define here become the name of the second tab and view.
